Tunnel Radio of America, Inc. was formed in 1988 to meet the demand for better wireless communications in the underground mining environment. The first reliable VHF radio system in the United States was installed by Tunnel Radio at the Greens Creek mine near Juneau, Alaska in 1988.  This installation is in full use today having expanded many miles in the last 18 years. Since that time, Tunnel Radio has installed wireless systems in numerous mines in 18 states and several foreign countries.

Since 1993, when we launched our first railroad system, we have expanded our product line to completely encompass their changing needs. Our Tunnel Radio Link technology has allowed the two top railroads in the world--Union Pacific and BNSF, to double their long-haul freight carrying capacity and reduce fuel costs.  Tunnel Radio is doing our part to reduce fuel consumption, increase capacity and reduce the freight traffic on the nation's highways.  Other countries are quickly following our lead.

At Tunnel Radio, we strive to create streamlined technologies that serve the needs of railroads, transit systems, and mines worldwide. From our TR-500 UHF, TR-155 VHF Leaky Feeder Ultra High Frequency communications systems and NetComm IP based systems for mines, to our railroad and transit systems; we have a technology to meet your needs.

We have installed wireless radio and data systems for some of the biggest names in transportation and mining, including: Union Pacific, Burlington Northern and Santa Fe, Metro-Link, Alaska Railroad, Cyprus-Amax, Homestake, LKAB, Newmont, Cominco, RTZ and Barrick. Coal installations include Arch Mineral, Massey, ICG, Bridger and many more.  The US Military has also asked us to provide solutions to their most difficult wireless requirements.
