The TR-500 UltraComm
‘TOP TEN’ List
10 reasons why you should purchase the
TR-500 UltraComm Underground Radio System
- 1 MSHA APPROVED - Our systems have passed the rigorous testing of the MSHA and West Virginia Office of Miners' Health Safety and Training with flying colors, and have received their endorsements.
- 2 INCREASED SIGNAL RANGE – The UltraComm TR-500 utilizes 500 MHz radios, radiating cable and point source antennas (the TR-4502) for maximum signal range from the cable into working areas. This is a 20 - 40dB improvement (500-1000 times signal strength improvement) over yellow Leaky Feeder cable. For a 7’ high coal opening, this translates into an improvement from 100’ for VHF to 4000’ signal throw for UHF and positive fill around and through a number of pillars to a working face. An end of line antenna will extend the range considerably further. One mine tested had 4000’ of coverage from a single point antenna in a 7’ seam.
- 3 OBSTRUCTION PASSAGE – An UHF signal will pass through metal, equipment, vehicles, and around corners better than longer wavelength VHF signals.
- 4 CLEARER SIGNAL – UHF’s noise immunity is much better than VHF’s, resulting in a clearer signal and superior communication in high noise environments, near machinery, motors and fans. The short 12” wavelength of UHF allows the use of compact point source antennas to improve signal strength in critical hard to cover areas.
- 5 LOWER BODY SHIELDING LOSSES – An UHF signal has lower body shielding losses when compared to VHF. An UltraComm TR-500 UHF System has a 9dB body shielding loss, as compared to a 25 dB+ loss for VHF. Body shielding is a measurement of the amount of a portable radio’s signal that is absorbed by the body of the user. Since signal strength improves by 50% for every 3 dB, retaining that 16dB of signal strength results in over 10 times the signal strength for your application.
- 6 DRIVE-BY DIAGNOSTICS – The UltraComm amplifiers have ‘drive-by’ diagnostics featuring easy-to-see LED’s on a rugged box enclosure. They also have an internal quick-change fuse, excellent built-in surge protection, filtering, and DC power on/off switches. These features provide immunity to external source interference, as well as making trouble isolation and change-out a ‘snap.’
- 7 COMPATIBLE WITH OTHER TUNNEL RADIO PRODUCT LINES
- Tunnel Monitoring System (TMS) is a system option that monitors system diagnostics and provides a true digital monitor and control layer which is distinct and separate from the system analog voice communication channels. Traditional VHF systems use older analog modem technologies for monitoring and control making them susceptible to inter-channel interference from voice channels. TMS is a purely digital data transmission mode immune to voice channel and analog noise interference. TMS is also well suited for the monitoring and tracking requirements. Control of mine utilities like fans, motors, belts, pumps and sensing devices is possible with TMS. TMS uses a true 2-way MODBUS formatted protocol that systematically polls remote units. The master card is installed in the UltraComm head-end unit and reports out to a 4 x 20 digit display, alarm contact closures and RS-232 as a DB-9 connector.
- MineAx “Bird-Dog” Tracking - The new "Bird-Dog" tracking provides your mine with the ability to wirelessly locate people and equipment underground. With our 'directionality' feature, you'll be able to track personnel and equipment moving both in and out of the mine from the computer monitor above ground, as well as know where your people are at all times--and up to hundreds of feet away from the main cable.
- 8 SIMPLE IS BETTER - Our products are easy to install, maintain, diagnose and update. Why make it complex?
- 9 NEVER BE OBSOLETE – The UltraComm TR-500 system is compatible with emerging digital radio’s so your system will always be able to utilize the latest technology. You will never be stuck with an outdated system, ever!
